It connects your vehicle directly to your smartphone - and the Internet. So that you can use helpful services and apps. Or access information in real time. And you can use it intuitively via your smartphone, tablet or the display of your Infotainment system. We have compiled a clear overview of everything you need to know about the practical Guide & Inform as well as Security & Service packages.

How to activate and use Car-Net

The Car-Net services eliminate many of your concerns, provide you with information and even make, for example, maintaining your vehicle more convenient. You can easily activate Car-Net via the app or directly in your vehicle. You will find detailed instructions about the different activation options here:

Certain requirements must be met in order for you to utilise the services. For the “Guide & inform” service package, you need a compatible navigation device and an Internet connection and for the “Security & service” service package a compatible radio or navigation system as well as the Volkswagen Telematics Box (OCU).

Prerequisites

“Discover Media” and “Discover Media Plus” navigation systems

To use the Car-Net “Guide & Inform” services, you need either the “Discover Media” or “Discover Media Plus” navigation system. Guide & Inform is available free of charge for the first three years after registration.

Wi-fi hotspot

You can connect the navigation systems to the Internet via your smartphone mobile hotspot. To do this, you need a wireless service plan with sufficient data volume.

Volkswagen CarStick LTE

The Volkswagen CarStick LTE is available as an alternative to the wi-fi hotspot. This uses a separate SIM card to provide a wi-fi hotspot for the Car-Net services – completely independent of the smartphone connection. You can also connect your mobile devices such as smartphones and laptops to the Internet. The CarStick is only available in conjunction with the “Discover Media” navigation system.

Prerequisites

“Composition Media” radio system

Would you like more comfort and control while driving? The optional “Composition Media” radio system in conjunction with the Volkswagen Telematics Box (OCU) enables you to effortlessly use the practical Security & Service options. By the way: Security & Service is available free of charge for the first three years.

“Discover Media” navigation system

Security & Service is also available when using the “Discover Media” navigation system – and even free of charge for the first three years. As with the “Composition Media” radio system, you also require the Volkswagen Telematics Box.

Volkswagen Telematics Box

The built-in Volkswagen Telematics Box is a prerequisite for Security & Service. It contains an integrated SIM card that keeps the vehicle connected to the Internet at all times. This enables you to access the vehicle status, receive automated notifications of service requirements and immediate notification if the anti-theft warning system is triggered, on the go. That is why Security & Service must be ordered in conjunction with the Telematics Box.

What are the prerequisites for using Car-Net “Guide & Inform”?
The following prerequisites must be met:
“Discover Media” Infotainment system or better
Internet connection in the vehicle
User account in the We Connect Portal
To use Car-Net via your mobile device, you also need a valid mobile phone contract with a cellular provider. The Car-Net services are only available within the coverage area of the relevant mobile network and use varying amounts of data depending on user behaviour. A data flatrate is therefore strongly recommended.
What are the prerequisites for using Car-Net “Security & Service”?
To enable you to use the Car-Net “Security & Service” range of services, please order the corresponding service package as well as built-in Volkswagen Telematics Box (OCU) when you order your Volkswagen Crafter. This is equipped with a SIM card which enables your vehicle to connect to the We Connect portal via the Internet.
To use the Car-Net “Security & Service” options, you will also need:
A We Connect portal user account,
A smartphone with a valid mobile contract in order to use the app.
In addition, some services require certain technical components in the vehicle. For example, you will need an anti-theft warning system to use the “Online Anti-Theft Alarm” service.
How much do the Car-Net “Guide & Inform” services cost?
For new vehicles, the Car-Net “Guide & Inform” services can be used free of charge within the initial contract term. The free usage duration depends on your country, vehicle model and equipment and can be up to 36 months. You will be able to use this free period in full if you register within 90 days of the handover of your vehicle.
Following this initial free usage period, you can extend the services in the Car-Net portal for a fee. The current prices vary according to your selected service bundle and the vehicle model.
How much do the Car-Net “Security & Service” options cost?
There is a one-time charge for the Volkswagen Telematics Box (OCU), payable when you purchase the vehicle. The exact cost is specified in the Volkswagen configurator. This can be used for 10 years and forms the basis for the “Security & service” options. This service package can then be used in new vehicles during the initial period at no extra charge. How long this period of free use lasts depends on your country, vehicle model and equipment, but it is at least twelve months, provided you register within 90 days of vehicle handover.
Following this initial free usage period, you can extend the services in the Car-Net portal for a fee. The current prices vary according to your selected service bundle and the vehicle model.
